I own some of these pedals and end up using them for driving more than flying, hence the “toe brakes” have become the throttle/breake pedals and the squeaking is starting to annoy me. Unfortunately there isn’t much online about taking these apart / repairing them, so here is you you can fix the squeaking:
Removal of Pedals
- Unplug them (important - see below)
- Turn them upside down
- Unclip the cover over the rotating part
- Push out the metal rod (the allen key which came to adjust them works)
From there you can see the plastic part which the pedal is rubbing against. If you want to take it off, you can do so by pulling it towards you.
One option would be to lubricate the parts that are rubbing against each other, though in my case I cut out some acrylic on a laser cutter to fill in the gap between the other hinge and the pedal, hence there would be enough distance between the other plastic parts to prevent the squeaking. The dimensions are as follows, for a 3mm thick acrylic sheet:
The hole is so that the part fits onto the metal rod.
We unplugged our pedals earlier because they will zero out the pots automatically when they are plugged back in. However you should still try and align the teeth so that the movement gets read along the full travel of the pedals.
Now might also be a good time to adjust the deadzones using the advanced calibration tool on Thrustmaster’s website. Note that this doesn’t work if the pedals are plugged into the throttle, so you’ll have to use the USB adapter.
