As Winter comes to an end, I thought I would come up with some plans for what to do this year. Originally I planned on writing this all the way back in December, but never got around to it…
Computer Related
- Find a use for Python
- Write about all the other things I haven’t gotten around to yet
- Move my domain from IONOS to Mythic Beasts (it’s cheaper!)
- Potentially move my VPS over there too
- Set up Nextcloud
Other Tech
- Find a use for the two Raspberry Pis I own, potentially Nextcloud for the Pi 5
- Make something with an Arduino
- Buy equipment for a small electronics lab, mainly for some experience with prototyping on breadboards
Chores
- Sort out everything in my desk drawers
- Take anything interesting off an old HDD and format it, for whenever I might want to use it
Moving On
Last year was the one that I spent a lot of time learning about Linux and setting up my website. My biggest investment was to buy a new laptop, that way I had a decent device to use outside of the house and the ability to flip between Windows and Linux quickly.
It’s well known that Linux doesn’t do everything Windows can, but I think the reverse is true as well. For example, the terminal and development tools are integrated much better, especially being able to configure things through files rather than GUIs (obviously for the developer facing stuff).
In terms of my laptop setup, I’m really happy with it. Whilst I sometimes feel a bit bored of Plasma and want to try out GNOME or even a window manager, I do this on a dual boot on my desktop to remove the risk of breaking a thing or two.
